Ongoing Aggression: The State Duma Voted in Favour of a Bill on Year-Round Conscription
The State Duma passed the first reading of a bill allowing conscription to take place throughout the calendar year rather than twice a year.
The bill to extend the conscription period from 1 January to 31 December was submitted to the Duma at the end of July.
At the same time, the actual dates for sending conscripts to the army remain unchanged — this will take place in spring and autumn. According to the authors, the new approach ‘will allow for an even distribution of the load on conscription points and improve the quality of conscription’.
