Ministry of Justice of Ukraine Proposes a New Mechanism to Speed Up the Identification of the Bodies of the Deceased
The Institute of Forensic Science of the Ministry of Justice has proposed a mechanism to speed up the identification of deceased persons.
This involves the use of biometric data from the State Migration Service, which has a database of fingerprints of approximately 35 million citizens.
Fingerprints taken from the bodies of the deceased can be compared with this data using special software.
Why is this important?
- Speed: identification is much faster than with DNA analysis.
- Accessibility: it does not require the mandatory participation of close relatives.
- Convincing for families: fingerprints from official documents are more understandable and acceptable than complex DNA test tables.
- Resource savings: reduces the burden on the DNA testing system and the cost of expensive reagents.
