The Security Service of Ukraine Arrested Another Former Guard of the Russian Torture Chamber That Operated During the Occupation of Kherson
The Security Service of Ukraine arrested a man in Kherson who collaborated with the Russian occupation administration and guarded a torture chamber.
According to the investigation, in the summer of 2022 the man took a job at the so-called penal enforcement department, which was set up in the building of the seized pre-trial detention center (SIZO) in Kherson. There he was appointed a junior inspector, issued a weapon, an identification card and a uniform of the Russian pattern.
The man guarded the cells of the occupation prison, to which the Russians brought members of the resistance movement. There they tortured them, trying “to beat out” from them the addresses of other pro-Ukrainian citizens.
After the city was liberated, the man attempted to hide in Kherson and rarely left his home; however, law enforcement established his whereabouts and detained him.
He was notified of suspicion under part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaborationist activity). He is currently in custody. Furthermore, he faces up to 15 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.
